"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends;
they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors
and the most patient of teachers"- a saying on a bookmark.
I am not really a loving kind of person. The love-stuff always makes me a bit uncomfortable.Awkward too. Never in our ten years of friendship have I ever hugged my two best friends. Which is fine with the three of us. Its just not me.Of course i love them. I love many people in my life.I am just not really audible about that love.
But there has always been one part of my life that has received constant care, devotion, adoration, praise (lots and lots of it) and the most imperative-Love. True, unconditional and undeniable love.
And that beloved part of my crazy life is BOOKS.
No, not a disgusting math book or a revolting science book (no offense to the geeks).
Just books. Books- novels, autobiographies, self-help, true stories -you name it all.
If I were to choose between a whole day of shopping for the world's most coveted luxury brands or to shop for the world's most coveted books my choice would always be the latter.
For me books are not read because you "have" to.Several of my friends ask me to lend my books to them so that they can "develop" an interest in reading or because they HAVE to read books in order to be more prepared for their MBA examinations.I wish to despise such people but since these people are my friends I cannot despise them. For me books are read out of pure selfish pleasure and need. Unavoidable pleasure.
Books have become an inevitable part of my life. Like death. Only books are not as horrific as death.They are the beautiful creatures that God has sent in the form of paper (smooth or rough) and classy words. They are the things that will support you no matter what. If you choose one book to read the others will not feel rejected or cheated. They will be there the other day, welcoming you with open arms (or I should say open pages), to pick one of them up and to devour the art of reading them.
This never ending love for books can go on and on but since I am not the world's greatest writer I am going to leave that task to someone else.
Until then- HAPPY READING :-D
